Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays there is shortage of homes everywhere but mainly in large cities. However Many people suggest that building tall apartment blocks are the solution to this problem.I strongly agree with this statement because this is the only best solution to this problem.
Firstly, shortage of homes is because of insufficient land.In the tall apartment block there is no problem of land shortage because many homes are built on one another. This provides sufficient space of living for many families. However in other resources should be reduced which is good for society.there are also many advantages of apartment blocks in term of relationship with society members.people live like a family in apartment. Moreover,
living in apartment is cost effective. the homes in apartments is very cheap as compared to separate home

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 126 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments provided are superficial and lack the necessary depth and supporting examples required for an academic essay. While the student takes a clear position, the under-length nature of the response means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, the student must expand on their arguments with specific examples, counter-arguments, and a more thorough exploration of the topic to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a higher level of critical thinking.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Moreover', the paragraphing is inadequate, and the flow between ideas is disjointed. The lack of a proper introduction and conclusion makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph. To improve, the student should focus on organizing ideas into distinct paragraphs—introduction, body paragraphs with clear topic sentences, and a conclusion—and use a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences and ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to convey complex ideas. Phrases like 'shortage of homes' and 'tall apartment blocks' are used repeatedly without variation. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'sufficient space of living' instead of 'sufficient living space' and 'in other resources should be reduced', which is unclear. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and demonstrate better control over word formation and collocation, moving beyond simple, everyday language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'building tall apartment blocks are the solution'), article usage (e.g., 'in the tall apartment block'), and punctuation (e.g., missing spaces after periods). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct subject-verb agreement and punctuation, before attempting more complex grammatical structures. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and capitalization is essential.
