Student answer (Band 6.5)

These days, the population of cities is going to increase day-by-day. It is often argued that the most suitable way to shelter this growing population is by making tall apartments, while most still want their personal homes. I strongly agree with the idea of large apartments in crowded cities.

Firstly, people move to large cities in order to get quality education, better career opportunities, and advanced medical facilities. Since, these advanced facilities is not accessible in smaller towns and countryside. As a result, cities become over populated and the homes alone do not fulfil the need of immersive demand for convenient shelter. In that case, tall apartments are the best choice to go for. The apartments offer range of facilities from well-ventilated rooms and beautiful view of city from windows to the basement for car parking and recreational place for kids.

Secondly, apartments blocks are not as expensive as homes. Above all, one can enjoy all the luxuries of a private house in a shared apartment. The idea of apartment blocks are really successful in a large cities because it can give homes to many families in a single building. That's not all, it is probably affordable and one can buy or rent it according to his ease.

What's more, there are lots of drawback living in apartment as it's a shared building and privacy can be highly disturbed. There are so many restrictions and you are not free to do things you like. It might sometimes causes clashes among people living together in the same building.

In conclusion, although apartments is the most convenient option because of it's compactness with lots of facilities. But also has many drawbacks in terms you need to follow terms and conditions, so, I believe advantages overweigh the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The main ideas—urbanization, facility availability, and affordability—are relevant. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of tall apartments are explained, the counter-argument regarding privacy and restrictions is introduced in the fourth paragraph but not fully integrated into the overall argument. The conclusion attempts to balance these points, but the development of the 'disadvantages' section is slightly underdeveloped compared to the benefits. To reach a higher band, ensure that the counter-argument is more effectively addressed or refuted to strengthen the overall position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'What's more', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the phrase 'In that case' which does not perfectly link to the preceding sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the flow between the third and fourth paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the discussion of advantages and disadvantages.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'over populated', 'immersive demand', and 'compactness'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'immersive demand' (which is not a standard collocation) and 'making tall apartments' (where 'constructing' or 'developing' would be more precise). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('these advanced facilities is not accessible', 'The idea of apartment blocks are', 'apartments is the most convenient'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'beautiful view of city' (missing 'the') and 'it's compactness' (incorrect use of possessive). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy.
