Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is said that constructing skyscraper buildings for people is the better way to provide sufficient place to live in large cities of a country. In my opinion, it is true rather than building tenements, tall apartments is a good alternative as it provides many homes to people and is more affordable than cottages.

To commence with, reasons why building a tall apartment is better option than houses. It not just utilizes lesser space but also provides various options for people with affordable prices than building a house. For instance, big cities like Melbourne have greater number of population and the management have constructed more skyscraper buildings as it provides home to many students and families. Furthermore, plenty of homes can subside in a apartment that provides enough space for family to reside.

Second reason is that the cost for building an apartment or purchasing it is lower than the cottages and villas. People living in large cities might struggle with finding home for their family as it requires lot of paperwork and structure for constructing homes. To exemplify, for building own house a person requires permission, structure, map and lots of material.

In addition, building tall apartments leaves enough space for other infrastructure in cities.

In conclusion, I agree with the supplied statement that building tall apartment blocks is best alternative of villas in large cities as it not just provides ample number of homes to students and family, but this also helps in managing infrastructure of a city and leaving enough space for other developments.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. The ideas are relevant, focusing on space efficiency and cost-effectiveness. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'paperwork and structure' for houses is vague and lacks a clear connection to why apartments are a superior solution beyond just being easier to build. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or specific real-world consequences, such as the impact on urban density or social sustainability, rather than just stating that they are 'better'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. For example, the transition to the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'subside in a apartment', where the word choice obscures the logical connection. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will help your ideas progress more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to express your ideas, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'subside in a apartment' is incorrect; 'reside in' or 'be accommodated in' would be more appropriate. Similarly, 'skyscraper buildings' is slightly redundant, and 'best alternative of villas' should be 'alternative to villas'. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the lack of precision in word usage prevents a higher score. Focusing on learning common collocations will significantly improve your ability to convey meaning accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect clarity. Common issues include article usage (e.g., 'in a apartment' instead of 'in an apartment'), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'tall apartments is a good alternative'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'building own house'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors like articles and plurals, and try to incorporate more varied complex structures with greater accuracy.
