Student answer (Band 6.0)

As population grows significantly, a critical dilemma arises: should metropolis provide skyscrapers for enough housing or building the houses in the countryside is the best approach?. While some argue that building the tall apartments is not the best approach, I firmly believe that a vertical construction is the only solution for providing more housing facilities for the dwellers of large cities, because it requires less space as compared to detached housing.

While it is undeniable that housing is an essential part of humankind, as there is not sufficient space in big towns for construction of new housing. This is the reason, making high - rise buildings is one of the best solutions to this problem. But what many individuals do not understand is that simply constructing the house in the vertical direction, not only saves space for other buildings but also alleviate the issue of less green areas, which is essential in the cities.

An equally pivotal factor is the heating problem in summers, tall buildings remain cold as compared to single or double story homes, as a tall structure keep all the floors cool because the direct sunlight cannot have access from the top. This type of construction ultimately result in less requirement of air-condition, which ultimately save the electricity and the ecosystem as well. Beyond heating solution, tall buildings offer the opportunity for vertical gardens. These type of gardens provide fresh fruits and vegetables to the resident of the apartments and also enhance the beauty of the building. For example, some cities like Mumbai, and Toronto, have vertical gardens on the tall building, which provide fresh area. Thus, it is clear that tall buildings not only solve the problem of providing more houses in the cities, but also provide fresh air.

In conclusion, the issue of whether provide houses to big cities in the form to tall building or deatch housing is having strong argument on both sides. However, from my standpoint, vertical housing is the ultimate solution for construct houses in the big cities. If the ultimate goal for governement is to build more houseing in huge cities , having a plan to contruct hi- risde appartments can contribute to this goal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of vertical construction. The ideas are relevant, such as space efficiency and environmental benefits. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding heating and cooling is scientifically questionable and lacks logical depth, which weakens the overall persuasiveness. While the position is consistent throughout, the supporting arguments could be more robustly explained to reach a higher band. The conclusion restates the position but introduces minor grammatical errors that slightly detract from the final summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'While it is undeniable', 'An equally pivotal factor', and 'In conclusion'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'This is the reason, making high-rise buildings'. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'metropolis', 'pivotal', and 'dwellers'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'alleviate the issue of less green areas' (instead of 'increase green space') and 'direct sunlight cannot have access' (instead of 'cannot penetrate'). Spelling errors like 'deatch' and 'hi- risde' also occur. While communication is not impeded, the range is limited by these inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the tall apartments', 'the electricity'), subject-verb agreement ('tall structure keep'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences ('This is the reason, making high-rise buildings...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces around hyphens and commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The writer shows an attempt at complex structures, but control over them is inconsistent.
