Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, population has been increasing rapidly. Some people argue that the great solution in this situation is to build tall apartment blocks to provide enough shelters in major cities. I do not agree with this argument, because building high-rise housing units would not be enough. The government should be provide other alternatives such as reducing the rent of the houses, and introduce financial assistance for first-home buyers. This essay will explain my stance with an explanation and examples.
People are struggling to rent a house in the urban areas because of the expensive rents. Many individuals cannot afford the rent and they are finding it very difficult to have a shelter on their heads, especially students. For example, a report shows that in the Perth which is one of the large cities of Australia, 95% students are facing an issue of excessive rental costs, and many of them ending up on streets. Hence, the state should focus on reducing rental prices instead of building tall units.
The another justification is that the government should provide incentives for first-time home buyers. It could be a reason of their motivation to buy their first-home, and they do not need to worry about paying rent. Everyone will end up to have their own house. For instance, the Australian government is providing incentives to first-home buyers in many big cities, and people are not dealing with any issues such as homelessness. Thus, the government needs to pay attention towards first- home buyer scheme rather than to construct new building blocks.
To wrap up, although, construction of tall apartment blocks can be helpful in the providence of shelters, I strongly agree that the governments need to focus on reducing rents and introduce first-home buyer incentives to providing enough homes for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the exclusive use of tall apartment blocks. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you suggest alternatives like rent reduction and financial incentives, the argument lacks depth regarding why these are superior to high-density housing in the context of urban planning. The examples provided, such as the reference to Perth, are relevant but could be more effectively integrated to support your central argument. To improve, ensure that your supporting points directly address the feasibility and impact of your proposed alternatives compared to the original suggestion of high-rise buildings.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In recent years', 'For example', and 'Thus' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the natural progression of your argument. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is a bit abrupt. Improving the use of referencing and substitution would help the text feel more cohesive and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'incentives', 'homelessness', and 'urban areas'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'shelter on their heads' (should be 'a roof over their heads') and 'providence of shelters' (should be 'provision of housing'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic collocations and less common lexical items to move into a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'The government should be provide' (should be 'should provide'), 'The another justification' (should be 'Another justification'), and 'end up to have' (should be 'end up having'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
