Student answer (Band 6.0)

The efficient way to give accommodation in large cities is to build tall buildings. This essay completely supports this view, as tall buildings can be both convenient and affordable for people to live in. In addition, building tall apartment blocks is a effective use of limited land.

Firstly, it can be observed that day by day population of urban areas are soaring, as cities provide job opportunities. Although there are limited houses to accommodate this large scale of people, to make a living the public migrate to the urban places. So it is definitely logical by focusing to encourage land owners to build taller building so that one particular building can attain more number of people. For instance, an one floor of building can accommodate a few number of people, whereas a skyscraper could keep a larger number of families. Therefore, in order to use the limited land of large cities efficiently for residential use, building taller apartments can control the increasing amount of population.

Finally, by building tall apartment blocks, land owners can save a handsome amount of money. Because they would not buy a new land to accommodate renters, instead they can make use of the existing land. By doing this practice, in urban areas there will be plenty of places available to build more houses to accommodate renters effectively. For example, when individuals start to construct skyscrapers, the cost will be comparatively low, as buying a plot in a city is very expensive.

Hence, building tall buildings not only saves money but also a rational approach towards the use of limited wealth.

In conclusion, this essay firmly depicts that taller buildings have a greta potential to store larger number of people. If owner of the land can use the existing fortune logically, he can prevent a illogical approach of wasting wealth and use that money for a greater profit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding land efficiency and cost-effectiveness are relevant and supported by basic examples. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second and third paragraphs, where the focus on 'saving money' and 'limited land' overlaps significantly. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore broader implications, such as the social impact of high-density living or the infrastructure challenges associated with skyscrapers, rather than focusing primarily on the financial benefits for landowners. The response is well-structured and directly answers the question asked.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion' effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive (e.g., the frequent use of 'this' to start sentences). To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the connection between sentences is more fluid rather than relying on simple signposting words.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'accommodation', 'urban areas', and 'skyscraper'. However, there are instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'attain more number of people' (should be 'accommodate more people') and 'store larger number of people' (people are not 'stored'). Additionally, there are minor errors like 'a effective' instead of 'an effective'. Expanding your range to include more precise academic collocations would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('an one floor'), pluralization ('one particular building can attain more number of people'), and word order. Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'it is definitely logical by focusing to encourage land owners'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
