Student answer (Band 5.5)

The best path to given enough accomodation in big cities is to build highrise apartment blocks. I fully agree on this statement because of tall building saving land and high rise apartment can be more efficient.

I am fully agree with this statement because of the one of the major advantages of the tall buildind saving land. Large cities have limited land and a single high-rise building can accommodate hundreds of families on relatively small plot of land. For example, in Mumbai, many people live in high-rise apartments because land in the city is so expensive. Therefore, vertical development can be an effective way of meeting the growing demand for housing.

However, high-rise apartment can be more efficient because of peaple can live closer to workplace, school and shopping areas. and also services can be planned efficiently such as water, electricity and public transport. And major advantages is a well planned high-rise apartment have a parking area, playgraound and shops. Governments can develop smaller towns around major cities. For example, residents of a well-planned high-rise community may be able to access most of their daily needs without travelling long distances. Therefore, high-density housing can make cities more convenient and efficient.

In my view, governments should adopt a broader approach. Along with high-rise apartments, they should develop affordable housing in suburban and satellite areas and improve public transportation between these areas and city centres.

In conclusion, I fully agree that tall apartment blocks are and important solution because they can house many peaple while using less land. and high-rise apartment can be more efficient.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of high-rise apartments. The ideas are relevant, such as land efficiency and the proximity of services. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second and third paragraphs where the benefits of efficiency are restated without adding significant new depth. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, but the overall development remains somewhat basic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Therefore', and 'In conclusion', though some are used mechanically or repetitively. There are instances where sentence structure is fragmented, such as starting sentences with 'And' or 'and also', which disrupts the flow. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between ideas could be smoother to improve the overall progression of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'accomodation', 'buildind', 'peaple', and 'playgraound', which are distracting. The range of vocabulary is limited to common terms, and there is little attempt to use less common or academic collocations. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of lexical sophistication and the presence of recurring spelling mistakes limit the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'I am fully agree' (incorrect verb form), 'one of the major advantages of the tall buildind saving land' (missing verb/awkward structure), and 'high-rise apartment can be' (missing article). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several sentence fragments and misused periods. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and affect the overall fluency of the writing.
