Student answer (Band 6.0)

As population in major cities continues to grow, providing sufficient housing becomes an important challenge. Although constructing high-rise apartment can accommodate large numbers of people relatively small areas, I believe This should be combined with other approaches to housing development.

To begin with detached houses with private area give ample space for parents to engage in various outdoor activities with their children such as gardening and playing hide and seek. Kids who grew up in such environment grow up to develop healthy habits. Another advantage houses is that it provides privacy since homeowners do not share walls or common areas with neighbours, they are less likely to be disturbed by noise and have a quieter environment.

However, with growing urban population and people migrating to cities from village areas for better opportunities has created a housing crisis. And given the fact that there's less land available to be used, so in order to use the existing land properly building tall apartment blocks could be the solution. As it requires less space and can accommodate a huge number of people. Making use of vertical space also mean there would be more land reserved for parks, schools, and hospitals.

Furthermore, apartments are located near malls, places of transport which makes life more confident and commuting much easier. In addition, apartments also have shared facilities like gym, swimming pool which also significantly improves their quality of life.

In conclusion, despite the benefits house offer constructing high rise apartments uses less space, accommodates more people and improves their daily life by providing access to various facilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed the prompt by providing a clear position that high-rise buildings are a necessary solution, though they should be balanced with other housing types. The ideas are relevant, particularly regarding land efficiency and urban amenities. However, the development of your arguments is somewhat uneven. The section on detached houses is a bit tangential, as it focuses more on lifestyle benefits rather than the core issue of providing 'enough' homes in large cities. To improve, ensure that every paragraph directly supports your stance on the feasibility of high-rise blocks as a primary solution to urban density. The conclusion is a bit brief and could better synthesize the main points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'However', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition in the third paragraph is slightly abrupt due to the sentence fragment 'And given the fact that...'. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as in the phrase 'Another advantage houses is that...', where a preposition is missing. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between your arguments would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urban population', 'housing crisis', and 'vertical space'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'makes life more confident' (which is unnatural; 'convenient' would be better) and 'places of transport' (better as 'public transport hubs'). You also have some minor grammatical slips that affect lexical precision, such as 'constructing high-rise apartment' (should be plural). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully convey your meaning, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include missing articles ('Another advantage houses' should be 'Another advantage of houses'), subject-verb agreement issues ('apartments... makes life'), and sentence fragments ('And given the fact that there's less land available...'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly awkward due to these grammatical slips. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors like pluralization and missing prepositions, and try to vary your sentence structure by using more complex subordinate clauses.
