Student answer (Band 6.0)
Building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide adequate homes in large cities. I definitely agree with this statement because tall flats can accomodate more people in the same area giving increased opportunity for outsiders to reside in this particular city.
Large cities mostly have more opportunity for people than small cities and villages. So outside people are attracted to these cities for getting a good job or starting a new business. However, if the city has not enough space to welcome these people, they will not get a chance to live here and make a career in this city. Therefore, tall apartment blocks should be preferred because they can welcome numerous non-natives and allow them to pursue their dreams in this large city.
Another reason for building flats with many floors is to control the pace at which the price per square foot increases in these cities. Population increases day by day resulting in an increase in demand for real-estate to satisfy everyone needs, but if this rise in demand does not meet the rise in supply, the price will increase enormously to a point where buying even a single room in large cities will become impossible. Mumbai is the perfect example for this, as price per square foot increases so much here that it takes 20 years for an average person to buy a 2-BHK house there. This makes outsiders not prefer this city because it would take them years to settle here.
Therefore, it can be said that tall flats should be made in these large and metropolitan cities because it will open many opportunities for outsiders to come and settle in this cities as there will be enough space and regular real-estate price for them to conveniently make a living there.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have provided two main arguments: the capacity to accommodate population growth and the economic benefit of controlling real estate prices. The example of Mumbai is relevant and helps support your argument effectively. However, the response could be improved by acknowledging potential counter-arguments, such as the social or infrastructure challenges associated with high-density living, to provide a more balanced and nuanced discussion. Overall, the ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a central theme, which aids readability. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However,' 'Therefore,' and 'Another reason,' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'metropolitan,' 'accommodate,' and 'real-estate.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'outside people' instead of 'migrants' or 'newcomers,' and 'regular real-estate price' which is slightly unnatural. While you attempt to use more specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word formation (e.g., 'accomodate' should be 'accommodate'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensuring correct spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'if the city has not enough space' (should be 'does not have'), 'everyone needs' (should be 'everyone's needs'), and 'in this cities' (should be 'in these cities'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing commas in complex sentences. You have control over basic grammar, but more complex structures often contain minor errors. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help improve your score in this criterion.
