Student answer (Band 5.0)

As the statement state that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.

I disagree with this to some extent that home in large cities is build at tall apartment because I don't think that building tall apartment is good choice because this can cause numerous problems. For example when living in apartments there are many things that than people have to use together like the machinery things, if there is problem in one machinery the whole apartment is affected by that although every people have their own life. By living together or side by side in apartments people start taking interest in other people life which is not a good thing. or in apartments there are lifts that people use for going everywhere and if something happened to the elevator everyone will be affected by this. there are also many other problems like water, gas problems.

To a very small extent I agree to this because there are also positive sides to live in an apartment or providing homes in the form of apartment because a small area is covered in that situation. People don't have to buy their own property and than to make house on it which require a lot of time, money and efforts which an employee and business man find difficult to do.

In conclusion I would say that yes it has both cons and pros. But using tall apartment blocks for large cities is not a good choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but lacks depth in its development. While you state a clear position, the arguments provided are somewhat superficial and repetitive. For instance, the points regarding 'machinery' and 'lifts' are quite narrow and do not fully explore the broader urban planning implications of tall apartment blocks. To improve, you should aim to expand on your ideas with more sophisticated reasoning, such as discussing infrastructure, social density, or environmental sustainability. The conclusion is brief and does not effectively synthesize the arguments presented, which limits the overall impact of your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical. You use basic transitions like 'For example' and 'In conclusion', but the internal logic within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed. For example, the transition from discussing machinery to social privacy is abrupt. Additionally, the use of cohesive devices is limited, and some sentences feel disconnected from the main argument. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'good choice', 'many things', and 'problems'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'machinery things' and 'make house on it'. To improve, you should incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to urban development, such as 'high-density housing', 'infrastructure', 'urban sprawl', or 'communal living'. Expanding your range of synonyms and using more precise terminology will help you express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'As the statement state'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'every people have their own life'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound.
