Student answer (Band 6.0)

Building tall apartments to provide shelters is a good way for people who are looking for home.I totally agree with this statement and in this easy I will discuss my response and points to prove my statement.

Building tall apartments can save a lot of land and it also helps people to stay connected with each other but on the other hand this can sometimes cause problem for residents.

To support my statement I would like to empathize that, if people are living in tall apartments it will save a lot of land, which the government can use for other projects and can build something meaningful which can attract tourism or maybe helpful for industrial work, living in tall apartments means less land is required,, which means natural resources remain intact and this will benefit the country as natural resources are helpful in many terms like scenic beauty to attract tourism and Forests help regulate the climate and maintain ecological balance.Another point is if people are living in building this can help residents develop mutual trust and stronger relationships with their neighbours, this way they can help each other in time of need.

On the other side of this statement, sometimes living in tall buildings can be hectic process as well, were people might experience discomfort, for instance if there is some electrical problem in the entire building and equipment are not properly well maintain like lift this can cause a serious frustration among people to get in their home. so this way there can be a issue in living tall buildings.

In Conclusion, living in tall buildings is advantageous thing which will serve a sense of security and will benefit our government to save its natural resources but sometimes modern things can bring hurdles in human life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas regarding land conservation and social cohesion are relevant, though the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument about 'natural resources' remains quite general and could have been strengthened with a specific example of a city that successfully implemented high-density housing. The counter-argument regarding maintenance issues is relevant but lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your supporting points with more concrete evidence or logical consequences, ensuring that the connection between the high-rise living and the stated benefits is more explicitly explained.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Another point is' and 'On the other side of this statement' are functional but basic. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'if people are living in building this can help residents', where the lack of an article or pluralization disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on general terms like 'good way', 'meaningful', and 'modern things'. There are also some minor collocation errors, such as 'hectic process' to describe living in a building, which is not the most natural choice. To improve, you should incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning, such as 'urban sprawl', 'high-density housing', or 'infrastructure maintenance'. While the meaning is always clear, the lack of sophisticated or less common lexical items limits the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in building', 'in time of need'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation (e.g., ',,', missing spaces after periods). The sentence 'if there is some electrical problem in the entire building and equipment are not properly well maintain like lift' is grammatically fragmented and awkward. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining the use of complex sentence structures will help improve your score.
