Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some believe in order to arrange enough shelters in metropolitan cities, tall apartment blocks are the best solution. I completely agree with this statement because, such apartments create enough space for a family to reside and reduce the amount of unnecessary constructions for housing problems.

Tall apartment blocks provide required amount of space for families and is much lower in monthly rent compared to big houses. These kinds of apartments have the capacity to handle more that 30 families depending on its size, reducing housing crisis. These are great deals for working class families as most people in big cities, look for houses that are affordable and have enough space. A classic example can be the China and Singapore's big cities where such apartments are a common structure. Thousands of employed people move to these cities for livelihood and stay in these blocks, leaving the whole city less crowded and investing in other projects.

Moreover, building such facilities lessen the needs for separate housing construction all over a city because these apartments can rent more number of people compared to normal houses. This helps government invest those money on entertainment, security, transportation and basically on better quality of life. Moreover, it reduces environment pollution caused by drilling and construction. For instance, in Singapore, government encourage citizens to live in those apartments by ensuring facilities like security, in-house grocery shops, gym, entertainment activities and so on as well as provides open spaces for public in outside areas without destroying the natural beauty by building houses everywhere.

In conclusion, i strongly believe that, constructing tall apartment blocks is one of the best ways to reduce housing crisis in large cities as they provide good space for working class families and eleminnate the need for excessive house building helping government and environment simultaneously.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments regarding affordability, space efficiency, and environmental benefits. The ideas are extended with examples from Singapore and China, which adds depth to your argument. However, the development is slightly repetitive in places, particularly regarding the benefits for the government. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, fully developed point rather than restating similar benefits. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the question, demonstrating a good understanding of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'those money' which lacks a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. To improve, focus on varying your cohesive devices and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to the intended nouns to improve the flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'metropolitan', 'livelihood', and 'excessive'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'arrange enough shelters' (better: 'provide sufficient housing') and 'rent more number of people' (better: 'accommodate a greater number of people'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'big cities' and 'big houses'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex sentences, there are persistent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('is much lower' should be 'are much lower') and article usage ('the China and Singapore's big cities' should be 'cities in China and Singapore'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some unnecessary commas, such as after 'believe that,'. The majority of your sentences are clear, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
