Student answer (Band 6.0)
The best path to given enough accommodation in big cities is to build high-rise apartment blocks. I fully agree on this statement because of tall building saving land and high rise apartment can be more efficient.
I am fully agree with this statement because of the one of the major advantages of the tall building saving land. Large cities have limited land and a single high-rise building can accommodate hundreds of families on relatively small plot of land. For example, in Mumbai, many people live in high-rise apartments because land in the city is so expensive. Therefore, vertical development can be an effective way of meeting the growing demand for housing.
However, high-rise apartment can be more efficient because of people can live closer to workplace, school and shopping areas. and also services can be planned efficiently such as water, electricity and public transport. And major advantages is a well planned high-rise apartment have a parking area, playground and shops. Governments can develop smaller towns around major cities. For example, residents of a well-planned high-rise community may be able to access most of their daily needs without travelling long distances. Therefore, high-density housing can make cities more convenient and efficient.
In my view, governments should adopt a broader approach. Along with high-rise apartments, they should develop affordable housing in suburban and satellite areas and improve public transportation between these areas and city centers.
In conclusion, I fully agree that tall apartment blocks are and important solution because they can house many people while using less land. and high-rise apartment can be more efficient.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of high-rise apartment blocks. The ideas are relevant, focusing on land efficiency and urban convenience. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion where the points about land and efficiency are restated without adding new depth. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on 'efficiency' could have been expanded with more specific examples beyond just mentioning services. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For example', and 'Therefore' are used to link ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'And' at the start of sentences. Additionally, some transitions between sentences within paragraphs are a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion, which helps the reader follow the argument, but the overall progression could be smoother with more varied linking phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'vertical development', 'high-density housing', and 'satellite areas'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is noticeable repetition of phrases such as 'high-rise apartment' and 'major advantages'. Some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'The best path to given enough accommodation', which should be 'The best way to provide enough accommodation'. While communication is never impeded, the range is not yet broad enough for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and articles, such as 'I am fully agree' (should be 'I fully agree') and 'one of the major advantages of the tall building saving land' (which is syntactically awkward). Punctuation is occasionally misused, such as starting sentences with 'and' or placing periods incorrectly. While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence construction.
