Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is argued that one of the best way to provide enough housing in metropolises is to build high-rise apartments. I completely agree with this statement because such buildings can accommodate a large number of families, reducing the need for extensive housing construction and allow government to use that saved budgets on other modern facilities for the residents
One of the major advantages of tall apartment blocks is that these have the capacity to accommodate larger number of families compared to other building types making better usage of scarce urban lands while reducing the need to build more residential areas in different parts of a city which are already crowded. As a result, it reduces environmental pollution cased by construction sites too. Moreover, if a city has only residential areas to reduce housing crisis, it would lose its green spaces and other facilities subsequently and thus such high-rise buildings are a great solution. A classic example would be Singapore, where such building structures are very common and seen as an effective way to turn their land scarcity into something creative while using other spaces for different projects helping citizens ultimately.
Another positive impact is that, governments can invest the remaining money kept for extra housing construction on modern facilities, public transportation instead to improve the citizen's quality of life. The state would be able to install new technologies, build more parks and green spaces, better traffic system and so on. This would significantly improve the standard of life in such areas as government would be able to improve other aspects of life rather than focusing only on one issue at a time. For instance, Singapore enables residents to use MRT systems that help them commute easily, avoiding traffic congestions. Furthermore, they invest heavily on green spaces and parks for the people. While it increases their quality of life, government also reduces housing crisis by building tall apartments.
In conclusion, i strongly believe that building high rise residential areas will help large cities with enough accommodations as its capacity to house large number of families reduce unnecessary constructions of houses everywhere while helping government to spend the remaining budget of other required facilities and amenities instead.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding land efficiency and the reallocation of government funds are relevant and well-supported. The use of Singapore as an example provides a concrete illustration of the points made. While the ideas are well-developed, the essay could be improved by briefly acknowledging the potential drawbacks of high-rise living (such as social isolation or maintenance costs) to provide a more balanced, nuanced discussion, which is characteristic of higher band scores. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear, logical flow of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic sentence, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to link ideas. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the phrase 'the remaining money kept for extra housing construction' is slightly clunky. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'metropolises', 'land scarcity', 'amenities', and 'urban lands' effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'cased by' (should be 'caused by') and 'saved budgets' (should be 'saved budget' or 'savings'). While the range is adequate to convey meaning precisely, it lacks the sophisticated, idiomatic control required for a higher band. The vocabulary is functional and clear throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'one of the best way' (should be 'ways'), 'allow government' (should be 'allows the government'), and 'cased by' (spelling error). Additionally, some sentences are slightly run-on, affecting the overall fluency. Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the student shows an ability to construct complex sentences, even if they are not always perfectly accurate. Greater attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the score.
