Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this modern era, population is grow rapidly day by day, so it is needed to provide a better residential place for all people. Many people think is build a skyscrapers in big cities is best way rather providing a limited numbers of houses. I completely agree with this statement.

To begin with, the world population is dynamic. The number of population is increased daily instead of decline this number. For that reason, governments should provide a inhabitants to house because of demands of living place is risen. For example, country like Japans where number of populations are high, so they build more vertical buildings rather than focus on horizontal. Additionally, high-rise building maximize land use efficiency. In other words, it allows more residents to live in a small areas with better facilities.

On the other hand, tall apartment blocks are more affordable compare to homes. Big cities like Dubai and Tokyo where population rate is high, so in a small area builders build a high-rise buildings with a nominal rates.

For instance, in Singapore more than 80% of populations live in skyscrapers because it is very cheaper rather than horizontal houses. Furthermore, government buy small land in the cities and build 30 to 50 story bricks apartments which provide home ownerships to hundreds of families in a single place.

In conclusion, vertical building construction provide a houses in a more affordable rates to all population, also it decrease the usage of land for construction sites, and It provide better facilities rather than house with good living experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding land efficiency and affordability are relevant and supported by examples like Singapore and Dubai. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the ideas could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on 'better facilities' is mentioned but not elaborated upon. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis is limited, keeping it at a solid level for a candidate who clearly understands the requirements but lacks the sophistication to fully expand on the implications of high-rise living.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the population growth argument and the land efficiency point. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'provide a inhabitants to house' instead of 'provide housing for inhabitants' and 'very cheaper' instead of 'much cheaper'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'vertical buildings' and 'land use efficiency', the repetition of basic words like 'big', 'small', and 'good' limits the score. The errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('population is grow', 'number of populations are high'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence construction ('many people think is build a skyscrapers'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The student needs to focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and pluralization rules.
