Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is true that best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I firmly agree with this statement due to reasons which I will discuss in the upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand , the primary benefit is use to limited land populated cities ludhiana, mumbai land is extremely expensive . Building vertically allows thousands of people to live in small area . secondly, tall buildings make its easier to provide services like water , electricity . Therefore, due to space and cost efficiency , tall apartments are the best way.

On the other hand , there are some significant reasons to disagree because high living leads to cause of mental health problem . people lack community feeling and children do not have space to play .

In conclusion , although apartment are not best for living and not comfort to play for children .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 152 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. The conclusion is abrupt and does not effectively summarise the main points or restate the position in a sophisticated manner. To improve, you must expand each body paragraph with detailed explanations and concrete examples to ensure the topic is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, the progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed due to grammatical errors and missing articles. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'high living leads to cause of mental health problem', which lacks a clear connection to the previous argument. More varied linking words and better sentence-to-sentence transitions are needed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'best way', 'good', and 'small area'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'use to limited land' instead of 'utilize limited land' or 'high living' instead of 'high-rise living'. Some phrases are awkward, such as 'not comfort to play'. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and focus on using words in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammar contains frequent errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with article usage (e.g., 'in small area'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure (e.g., 'the primary benefit is use to limited land populated cities ludhiana'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. Complex structures are attempted but often contain errors, such as the final sentence which is a fragment. Improving your control over basic sentence construction and punctuation is essential before moving on to more complex grammatical forms.
