Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowdays, population is rapidly increasing for this we need more shelter for people. Some suggest goverment build flats in single building rather than houses and others wants houses. In my opinion, I partly agree with statement, which i will explain in following paragraph.

ONe of the main advantage of tall bilding is that it uses limited space and can accomodate large number of people. Also Large cities have limited space with high cost land which makes it difficult to provide houses with gardens for every family. For example cities like hong kong and singapore have veritical made high rise building which can accomade large number resulting in living closer to public transport and work place

But this also have disadvantages, LIving in these buildings can affect private life of a family because these placing become overcrowed as public facilities are less available. In addition, some people want their own house especially families with kids so that they can enjoy family time without disturbance. so depending on tall apartment blocks is not the only solution. The solution for this is that the goverment should combine high rise building with low cost housing consturction so that they have an choose of living independenlty. The unsed complex should be converted into these affortable houses which encourages construction near public transport.

In conclusion, I want to say although huge apartment blocks can cover large number population because they use limited land creating space for more public facitilites. Neverthless, I dont consider it to be the only possible solution. A combination of both building and low rise housing is the best approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a partially agreeing position. The main ideas—space efficiency versus the need for private, low-rise housing—are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited. While examples like Hong Kong and Singapore are provided, the explanation of why tall buildings might negatively affect 'private life' is a bit vague. The conclusion effectively summarizes the balanced view, but the overall depth of the argument could be improved by providing more specific evidence or reasoning regarding the socio-economic impacts of high-density living. The position is clear throughout, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition,' 'For example,' and 'In conclusion,' though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally logical, moving from the benefits of high-rise buildings to the drawbacks and finally to a proposed solution. However, there are some issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, such as the awkward phrasing in the introduction ('for this we need...'). Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'Nowdays,' 'goverment,' 'bilding,' 'accomade,' and 'affortable.' While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'high-rise building' and 'public facilities,' the range is limited. The errors in spelling and word choice (e.g., 'veritical made') are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not fully impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate more control over spelling and use a wider range of academic collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles ('in single building'), subject-verb agreement ('others wants'), and punctuation errors. Some sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'Nowdays, population is rapidly increasing for this we need more shelter for people.' While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and improving sentence variety.
