Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays the population is increasing at an alarming rate and to provide them adequate housing is the biggest challenge. Some people think that the construction of high-rise buildings can be a good solution. I completely agree with this proposal as it has multifarious benefits which will be discussed in the forthcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, there are a plethora of reasons that building tall apartment blocks in large cities can be a good solution to the problem of increasing population. Primarily, the area of land is limited and is very expensive. Instead of building houses that occupies large space, high-rise buildings should be constructed which provides accommodation to various families. as the hundreds of homes can be constructed in a single building and within a limited space. This proposal is more relevant in overcrowded areas.
Moving further, sometimes for the construction of single houses, farmland and rural areas are also occupied. But building tall apartment blocks prevents the usage of land which can be used for the agriculture purposes. High-rise buildings should be constructed near the schools. offices, hospitals and shopping malls. This will make all the necessary facilities easily accessible. Additionally, various other facilities should also be provided such as parks near buildings as it will help to remove the feeling of isolation. The public transport should be easily accessible near the buildings which may help in reducing the problem of traffic congestion.
To recapitulate, the contemplating over the huge accord of thoughts and speculation, I have come to the decision that building tall apartment blocks can be a good solution as it will solve the issue of various homeless families and will provide them shelters.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding land efficiency and the preservation of rural areas are relevant and well-supported. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the mention of 'limited space' appears in both the second and third paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on the social or economic implications of high-rise living more deeply rather than restating the same points. The conclusion is a bit weak and redundant, failing to add a final synthesizing thought to the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moving further', and 'Additionally' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are some mechanical issues with punctuation and sentence structure that affect flow. For example, the sentence 'as the hundreds of homes can be constructed...' is a fragment that disrupts the logical progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the concepts of land usage and urban planning.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'multifarious', 'plethora', and 'congestion' appropriately. This shows an attempt to use less common lexical items. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the contemplating over the huge accord of thoughts', which is unnatural and confusing. Additionally, 'agriculture purposes' should simply be 'agricultural purposes'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, refining your word choices to sound more natural and precise would elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive feature. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'the area of land is limited and is very expensive' is slightly clunky, and 'near the schools. offices' contains an incorrect full stop. There are also subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'building... that occupies' (should be 'occupy'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of complex sentence construction.
