Student answer (Band 6.0)

In todays time, it is often argued that the most suitable solution to allocate homes in cities is to build residential skyscraper . However I am largely disagree with the said notion. and here, in this essay i will explain both views with relevant examples and also support my statement.

On the one hand, vertical housing will provide apartments at lower prices. To be more precise, mostly in residential skyscrapers the builders charges comparatively low cost for the apartments which are located at higher floor compare to that of bottom level. This will be blessing for the individuals who have strict or limited budget for housing or for whom cannot afford ground houses. Furthermore, it will allows the person to fully cut-off from hustle bustle of city life due to it is higher location. Moreover, building vertical housing will reduce the destruction of fertile land as the house will build multi-storey and reduce the construction in farm. For example, According BBC report, it stated that building an apartment is affordable and will provide maximum profits. They also stated that, around 53% of fertile land was saved by building vertical housing in New York.

On the other hand, New advanced and developed technology is required to build such apartments and to design it. In other words, the architecture of residental skyscraper must include vital facilities which requires better technologies and ideas. Furthermore, an individual may feel isolated and anxiety, if he lives on the highest floor of apartment as it will provide full cut-off from city. Moreover, tower blocks lacks safety and security in times of natural disasters like Tsunami and Earthquake because there is higher possibilities of collapsing of such building structures. In addition, excessive building of vertical houses will leads to congestion because it will have burden on local system as there are no capacity to facilitate lot of people. For example, In 2002, India, extreme loos was noticed in cities like Mumbai and Ahemdabad where the vertical housing was build due to Earthquake.

To sum up, It is was suggested to build skyscrapers to meet the rising demand for housing in cities. This approach will have decrease in the number of fertile land which was do used to destroyed in order to build houses as block apartment will be build. However, i largely disagree with statement as it will do not provide safety and security in natural disaster. In addition, It can be affect the people emotionally as people can feel isolated, anxiety and less social.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While you provide arguments for both sides, some points, such as the claim that skyscrapers are cheaper or the specific reference to a BBC report, lack depth and clarity. The essay structure is logical, but the conclusion contradicts the introduction slightly by focusing on the disadvantages rather than summarizing the balanced view presented. To improve, ensure that your supporting examples are more clearly explained and directly linked to the main argument to avoid over-generalization.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'To sum up'. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'In other words' when introducing a new point rather than rephrasing. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences feel disjointed due to punctuation errors. Improving the flow between sentences by using more sophisticated linking phrases would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting to use topic-specific terms like 'residential skyscraper', 'hustle bustle', and 'fertile land'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'extreme loos' instead of 'losses' and 'do used to destroyed'. Some phrasing is unnatural, such as 'largely disagree with the said notion'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, the errors in word formation and collocation prevent you from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('builders charges', 'tower blocks lacks'), incorrect verb tenses ('was do used to'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be beneficial.
