Student answer (Band 6.0)

Due to the drastic rise in the world population, homes are becoming basic need for living a good life. However, there are not enough houses for every single families in wealthy cities. So to solve this problem cities are building the tall apartments to provide cheap and good space for a single families and i am totally agree with this.

The first and the foremost reason is easy to afford. In well developed cities like Calgary, Toronto and many more are to expensive for numerous families. But in the case of apartments, they are more affordable and cheaper to maintain. Further more, big apartments are usually build near the downtown so people can easily reach their jobs with just the walking distance.

A part from that, building apartments are also saving lots of land area and that can be use for agriculture sector. For instance there was a report issued by the Frankfurt university of USA in 2024 and they was claimed that rise in the number of apartment blocks can easily save the time, money and the area for other works like boosting the infrastructure of the nation. Moreover, living in apartments can also increase the social, interacting and communication skills of children. Because they can just next door to their friends which give them extra time to talk and make a healthy relationship with them. Ultimately it is boosting their growth.

In conclusion, i can say that building tall blocks are overall helps to deduct the cost of making homes because they are more expensive than apartments.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the points regarding affordability and land conservation are relevant, the argument about social skills is less convincing and lacks depth. The conclusion is also problematic, as it contains a logical error by stating that homes are 'more expensive than apartments' in a way that confuses the comparison. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with clear, logical links back to the main argument, avoiding contradictory statements in the final summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'The first and the foremost reason' and 'Moreover', but these are sometimes used mechanically. There are also issues with referencing and flow; for example, the transition between the benefits of land conservation and the social benefits for children is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, such as 'Because they can just next door to their friends', which lacks a main verb. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the essay flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'cheap', 'good', and 'big'. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'deduct the cost' (should be 'reduce') and 'they was claimed' (grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated academic vocabulary, such as 'urban density', 'cost-effective', or 'sustainable development', and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations to convey your meaning more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('they was claimed'), incorrect pluralization ('every single families'), and missing verbs ('they can just next door'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction—ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb—will significantly improve your score.
