Student answer (Band 6.5)
More and more people are shifting toward larger cities, thus in order to provide enough homes to the people, tall apartment blocks are built. I mostly agree that this is a good solution, but there are some negative impacts of this.
Building tall apartment blocks in larger cities are a good solution because it brings down the overall cost of owning a house in those cities. For example, a hundred people living in a single apartment only had to pay the individual price for the construction of their individual house, the price of acquiring the land got divided among the all apartment members. Additionally, the price for maintainance of the apartment also gets divided among the people. Apart from the cost of owning and maintaining a house, tall apartments are necessary because it might not be feasible for everyone to acquire the land to build a house, especially in larger and popular cities, where people wants to live near the place of their work.
Although, tall apartments are good solution to provide large number of houses, it has some negative impacts on the local people. For example, in larger cities where there are many popular companies, tall apartments attract large number of people from all around the country. This makes the area very crowded and often encourages the local merchants to increase the price of the grocessories due to increased demand, which results in increased cost of living for the local people. Additionally, tall apartments without proper maintainance may become a safety hazard for the people living nearby those apartments. This often happens for older apartments where most of the people have moved out.
In conclusion, I mostly agree that building tall aparment blocks are a good solution to provide enough number of homes in larger cities. However, I do concede that it may impact the local communities, and sometimes may become a safety issue for them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing relevant arguments. You discuss the economic benefits of tall apartment blocks, such as cost-sharing, and acknowledge the drawbacks, such as overcrowding and safety concerns. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'local merchants' increasing prices is a bit speculative and could be better supported with more concrete reasoning. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more depth and logical progression rather than just listing potential issues. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but the depth of analysis remains at a moderate level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Additionally', 'Although', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the transition between the benefits and the drawbacks could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better pronoun referencing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'feasible', 'acquire', and 'concede'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'maintainance' (maintenance) and 'grocessories' (groceries), and some word choice inaccuracies, such as 'individual price for the construction of their individual house'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and refining your collocations to sound more natural and precise in an academic context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Building tall apartment blocks... are a good solution' should be 'is a good solution'; 'people wants to live' should be 'people want to live'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article usage errors throughout. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy in subject-verb agreement and verb forms will help improve your score in this criterion.
