Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Constructing big, tall apartment blocks in huge cities is the best way to provide sufficient homes.
I fully agree with this statement. It is very good idea to manage need of homes in a huge city because in big cities it is very hard to find homes to live in. Due to the high prices of lands most people can not afford it, hence by building this kind of blocks in city can really help to fulfill need of homes in a huge, well-developed city. while it is also very important to make other essential things in the city so it saves lots of space. Most people live in this kind of apartment.
Because of this, prices of land and homes can also decrease to some level so everyone becomes able to afford a home in a well-developed city.
After all, I completely agree with the statement best way to provide homes is by building tall apartment blocks because it saves space and it is affordable for everyone. Hence, it is a good idea to implement, in my opinion

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 179 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and repetitive. You mention that tall buildings save space and reduce costs, but these points are not supported by specific examples or detailed reasoning. To improve, you must expand each body paragraph with concrete evidence, such as discussing urban planning, infrastructure, or social impacts, to ensure the task is fully addressed as required for higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Due to', 'hence', and 'After all', but they are sometimes used mechanically or with awkward phrasing. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraph is very short and lacks the depth needed to demonstrate a logical flow of complex arguments. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph develops a single, clear idea.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'big', 'huge', 'good idea', and 'homes'. There is little attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary. Phrases like 'manage need of homes' and 'make other essential things' are imprecise and unnatural. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to urban development, such as 'high-density housing', 'urban sprawl', or 'infrastructure'. Expanding your range will help you express your ideas with more precision and style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'it is very good idea to manage need of homes' (missing articles) and 'building this kind of blocks in city can really help' (subject-verb agreement and article usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequent errors in basic grammar, such as missing articles and incorrect pluralization, hinder the overall clarity. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and varying your sentence structures.
