Student answer (Band 6.0)
The rapid growth of urban populations has created an increasing deman for housing in major cities. Some poeple argue that constructing tall apartment buildings is the most effective way to accommodate this growing population. I largely agree with this view because high-rise buildings make efficient use of limited urban land, although they should be combined wiwth other housing strategies.
One major advantage of tall apartment buildings is that they allow cities to accommodate large numbers of poeple without requiring vast amounts of land. In high populated areas where the land is expensive or impractical for individual housing. By building vertically, hundreds of families can live on a relatively small plot of land. for example, a single high-rise residential building can provide accommodation for several hundred residents while occupying far less land than a comparable number of detached houses. So in this circumstances, building tall apartment blocks help cities respond to population growth while limiting outward urban expansion.
However, building talller and taller apartment block is not necessarily the best solution on its own. If the construction goes on and on, residents may face overcrowded public transports, inadequate schools, traffic congestion and pressure on water and electricity. In addition, peopley may prefer houses with private outdoor space rather than living in high-rise buildings. Therefore, governments should adopt a broader approach that includes developing well-planned suburban areas and improving public transport systems between residental districts and city centers. This would allow population growth be managed without placing excessive pressure on central urban areas.
In conclusion, I believe that tall apartment blocks are one of the most effective ways of providing housing in large cities because they make efficient use of limited land. Nevertheless, they should not be regarded as a complete solution, and high-rise development should be supported by adequate infrastructure and other forms of housing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have clearly addressed the prompt by taking a balanced position, agreeing with the efficiency of high-rise buildings while acknowledging the need for a broader urban strategy. Your ideas are relevant and well-supported with logical arguments regarding land use and infrastructure pressure. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are fully integrated into the flow of the argument; for instance, the example about high-rise residential buildings is good, but could be further developed by contrasting it with the specific social or environmental costs of sprawl. Overall, the response is well-focused and maintains a consistent position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'In addition', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas effectively. The progression of thought is easy to follow. To improve, ensure that your referencing is precise; for example, the phrase 'in this circumstances' is slightly awkward and could be replaced with a smoother transition like 'under these circumstances'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure supports the development of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'urban expansion', 'infrastructure', and 'detached houses'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'deman', 'poeple', 'wiwth', 'taller', and 'peopley'. These minor errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling slips and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or academic synonyms to enhance the precision of your arguments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'In high populated areas' (should be 'highly populated') and 'population growth be managed' (should be 'population growth can be managed'). Additionally, there is a sentence fragment in the second paragraph: 'In high populated areas where the land is expensive or impractical for individual housing.' This should be connected to the following sentence. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your points.
