Student answer (Band 6.0)

The best solution to provide homes in urban areas is to build tall apartment block which I strongly agree since it has advantages to the community and the people.

Admittedly, cities are known to have bigger facilities and structures that are constructed in a manner to accommodate large number of people. Nevertheless, the best way to provide enough homes in the area is to build tall apartment blocks, since urban areas have limited spaces and they are mostly owned privately.

In comparison to smaller lodging areas, it would only be limited to number of tenants. For instance, building tall apartment blocks has a lot of rooms and facilities for occupants that benefits them such as gyms, study areas, and gardens. Consequently, there will be a great community that provides the need of the people.

Furthermore, a primary drawback for this would be the increasing number of people in the city, since it is known to accommodate large groups, as a result, tourists and locals will be attracted to migrate in the area.

These days most individuals prefer to live in the urban area because of some benefits, such as, universities offering various programs, high-paying jobs, different opportunities, and most especially experiencing city life including the ability to learn about the community, together with their cultures and traditions.

In conclusion, I strongly agree in the view that urban areas should building tall apartment blocks as the best way to provide enough houses to people and accommodate their needs, instead of limiting number of tenants in a big community.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention benefits like gyms and gardens, the argument remains superficial and lacks depth. The discussion regarding the 'drawback' of migration is slightly confusing, as it is presented as a negative consequence of providing housing, which weakens your overall argument. To improve, ensure that your supporting points directly reinforce your position and provide more detailed explanations or examples to fully develop your arguments, rather than listing general benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Nevertheless', 'For instance', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of urban life and the conclusion is abrupt. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall structure and readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'urban areas', 'tenants', and 'migrate'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'should building tall apartment blocks' and 'provide the need of the people'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms for common words will help demonstrate a greater command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'which I strongly agree' (missing 'with'), 'should building' (incorrect verb form), and 'limiting number of tenants' (missing an article). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma usage in lists. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles. Proofreading for these small but frequent errors will significantly improve your accuracy.
