Student answer (Band 6.0)

I agree with the statement that the best way to provide enough home in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.

As we see nowadays people move to the metro cities in search of better job opportunities and build a successful career. The population in larger cities are increasing rapidly and for the migrants the requirement of residential area also increase. But due to the scarcity of land resource we cannot fulfill the requirement of individual premises and to solve this problem we do have a solution to build apartment buildings to carry a large population on a limited land.

Having tall apartment blocks are useful in handling the aggressively rising demand of houses in large cities without disturbing the biodiversity as we do not require to cut off the forest land to expand the residential requirement of the city. It also help the people who travels daily from distant location due to lack of a residence in the city. It is also cost effective as buying a land is much more expensive that owning a flat.

I would like to explain the situation by giving an example of a Metro city. As we see Mumbai is a small city in terms of Land area but economically it is way more large and is also one of the most densely populated city. The land area is not enough to provide every individual a land to build their home. Instead we can see a lot of tall buildings with a lot of flats in it.

Hence, there are many factors that are responsible for building tall apartment blocks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating an agreement with the proposition. The main ideas—land scarcity, environmental preservation, and cost-effectiveness—are relevant and logically linked to the topic. However, the development is somewhat superficial. While the example of Mumbai is pertinent, the argument could be strengthened by exploring potential counter-arguments or more nuanced social impacts of high-rise living. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis is limited, keeping it within the Band 6 range. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your supporting points with more detailed explanations or evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central focus. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'It also help', 'It is also'). Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. While the overall structure is coherent, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional awkward phrasing in transitions prevent a higher score. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices will help the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'scarcity of land resource', 'biodiversity', and 'densely populated'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'metro cities' (instead of 'metropolitan areas'), 'requirement of residential area' (instead of 'demand for housing'), and 'cut off the forest land'. The range is sufficient to communicate, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. Focus on learning collocations and more academic synonyms for common words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The population... are increasing', 'requirement... also increase', 'it also help') and article usage ('a land', 'the lack of a residence'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while ensuring accuracy will also help raise your score.
