Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the recent ear of growth and development, the most efficient way to suffice needs for housing and shelter in metropolitan cities is to construct new skyscrapers. I completely agree to this thought as this is the most productive and wise usage of land area.
Firstly, if we build tall flats we will spare lots of land area for the usage of other development. For instance, the same place where initially housing were supposed to be constructed can be utilized for planting trees and this could help us increase the flora and fauna, supporting a better surrounding place to live for. This would directly provide more oxygen and fresh air to such developed cities and the people will have fresh air to breathe decreasing the carbon dioxide and controlling pollution.
Secondly, these apartments provide all great amenities which are usually not built in each townhouses. For example the saunas and gym which can be explored by the members of the building. This will make their daily routine more convenient and save lots of time to hop around for other options. In addition to that, children will prefer to play outdoor as they will have access to games zone and have friends along to play in common play area. Elderly population might like to have a cup of coffee or tea from their balcony and enjoy the views.
Hence, building tall buildings has more advantages and I completely support the idea to construct tall apartments instead of using the land are to build townhouses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. The main ideas—land efficiency and the provision of amenities—are relevant. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'flora and fauna' is a bit simplistic, and the discussion of amenities lacks a counter-perspective or a more nuanced exploration of the social implications of high-density living. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your arguments with more specific examples or deeper analysis of the trade-offs involved in urban planning, rather than just listing benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'For instance', and 'In addition to that' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The progression of ideas is logical, but the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The conclusion is brief and effectively summarizes the main stance, though it introduces a slight shift in focus by mentioning 'townhouses' which were not explicitly defined earlier.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'metropolitan', 'amenities', and 'convenient'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'recent ear of growth' (likely meant 'era'), 'suffice needs' (should be 'satisfy needs'), and 'hop around for other options'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I completely agree to this thought' (should be 'with'), 'housing were supposed' (should be 'was'), and 'usage of other development' (should be 'developments'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
