Student answer (Band 6.0)
Urban areas are developing fast, and as a result there is need of more housing, schools, hospitals, offices. A large number of people find it difficult to find place in metropolitan areas. This essay tends to agree with statement that the high-rise buildings can be the best way to shelter large number of families in towns.
One of the prominent reason is that it will help to manage and make the best out the available space in megacities. Many families can be adjusted in relatively small piece of land. If we take an example of a huge apartment having multiple blocks, many families reside in one block and they use the common park, gym, swimming pool and shops. It also helps to build healthy connection between folks of different ethnicities, as a Muslim family they would be sharing the next door flat with a Hindu people.
Another thing worth noticing is that building apartment complex will help to preserve the natural resources of the nearby environment , thus maintaining both nature and quality of life. If tall building are built, less number of trees will be depleted for constructions of houses and hence air quality would be preserved. Managing electricity and water lines will be straightforward as the apartment blocks has centralized system, reducing the labor cost and time.
To conclude, the factors mentioned above explains and supports why urban planning plays a crucial role in urban areas. High-rise building can not only shelter more people, but also make their life convenient and a small place multi-purpose.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas regarding space efficiency and environmental preservation are relevant and logically extended. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the point about social cohesion is a bit anecdotal and could have been more broadly framed. The conclusion is brief but effectively summarizes the main arguments. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced analysis or counter-arguments to demonstrate a deeper exploration of the topic, rather than relying on simple examples like the specific mention of religious groups, which feels slightly tangential to the core argument of urban planning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of the prominent reason is', 'Another thing worth noticing', and 'To conclude'. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or grammatically awkward, such as 'Another thing worth noticing is that building apartment complex'. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the jump from discussing space to social connection. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'metropolitan areas', 'centralized system', and 'urban planning'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'there is need of more housing' (should be 'a need for'), 'many families can be adjusted' (should be 'accommodated'), and 'less number of trees' (should be 'fewer trees'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and a wider range of academic vocabulary to move into the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including article usage ('the high-rise buildings' vs 'high-rise buildings'), subject-verb agreement ('the apartment blocks has' should be 'have'), and pluralization ('one of the prominent reason' should be 'reasons'). While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and article consistency, and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
