Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt but lacks a clear, consistent position. While it touches on the benefits and drawbacks of tall apartment blocks, the arguments are often vague and lack specific examples or logical development. The ideas regarding 'fresh air' and 'gardens' in relation to tall buildings are somewhat contradictory to the reality of high-density urban living. The conclusion does not clearly state a final opinion, which is a requirement for a higher band score. To improve, ensure you take a clear stance in the introduction and support each main point with specific, relevant evidence or reasoning rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. Transitions are often misused or absent, making the flow between sentences feel disjointed. For example, the shift from discussing the benefits of tall buildings to the drawbacks is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'it will' and 'there are'. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'conversely') to connect ideas more naturally and ensure each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately. Phrases like 'phenomenal growth and exploration of big houses' and 'plateaued schemes' do not fit the context of urban planning, suggesting a misunderstanding of these terms. There is also significant repetition of basic words like 'houses' and 'big'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the misuse of academic-sounding terminology hinder the quality of the writing. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to urban development and avoid using complex words unless you are certain of their meaning and usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it will brings', 'society builts'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence structures. The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. Complex sentences are attempted but often contain errors, such as 'everybody can not live alone in big houses and all basic provisions are not possible for it'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs, before attempting more complex structures.
