Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of tall apartment blocks in urban housing. You maintain a clear position throughout, acknowledging the benefits of high-rise living while also presenting alternative solutions. However, some ideas are under-developed; for instance, the suggestion to build in rural areas is mentioned but lacks specific explanation on how this effectively solves the housing crisis in large cities. The argument regarding environmental impact is also somewhat vague. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with logical links to the main argument rather than just listing potential solutions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'Consequently' to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'But' or 'Also' in a way that disrupts the flow. Additionally, there are instances where the connection between sentences is weak, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between the benefits of views and the mention of facility maintenance feels abrupt. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary era', 'iconic view', and 'amenities'. However, there are several spelling errors ('scyscrapers', 'apartements', 'maintainance', 'inplace') and some awkward collocations, such as 'tall buildings are damage to the environment'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to limit your score. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations to ensure your writing sounds more natural and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences with relative clauses ('which fascinates people'), there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('tall building helps', 'tall buildings are damage'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas. These errors are noticeable and occur frequently, though they rarely impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that your complex structures are formed correctly without missing auxiliary verbs or prepositions.
