Student answer (Band 6.0)
Rapid urbanization has increased considerably. People from rural areas have migrated to metropolitan cities in search of better life which has resulted a serious situation of shortage of housing . Many people believe that constructing a tall building would be a better option to provide shelter to homeless whereas some people think that it will lead to the situation of over crowding. I partly agree with the former approach.
Beginning with the advantages of high rise buildings, they can provide accommodation for a large number of people in a limited area. High rise buildings are in the shape of vertical , these don't require a large land to build . Governments and private agencies can construct a building in a small space with safety precautions . Consequently, this approach can help preserve valuable green spaces within cities. For instance, it has been seen that many green space like forests are cutting down to make new residential areas for the people to complete their need for housing in the big cities .
However, it also has some disadvantages. High rise buildings and apartments can cause overcrowding and reduce the quality of life of their residents. Consequently, this will lead to traffic congestion and put pressure on public infrastructure if urban planning is inadequate. For example, Delhi , the capital of India is illustrates some of these challenges. People daily face delays because of long traffic jams during rush hours due to over population.
In conclusion, i strongly believe that high rise apartments are good option for providing accomodation to the people . It will save the greener space land for other purposes because a small piece of land is utilised in a manner which can provide housing for thousands of people at a time .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You successfully identify the benefits of high-rise buildings, such as land efficiency and the preservation of green spaces, while acknowledging the drawbacks like overcrowding and infrastructure strain. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example of Delhi is relevant but could be expanded to explain exactly how high-rise living specifically contributes to the traffic issues mentioned. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more depth and specific analysis rather than just stating the consequence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Beginning with', 'Consequently', and 'However' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing; for example, in the second paragraph, 'these don't require a large land' is slightly awkward as 'these' refers back to 'buildings' but the phrasing is imprecise. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the central ideas are easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urbanization', 'metropolitan', and 'infrastructure'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'many green space like forests are cutting down' should be 'many green spaces like forests are being cut down'. Additionally, 'is illustrates' is a grammatical error that also affects lexical precision. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that word forms (e.g., 'overcrowding' vs 'over population') are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder the flow. Notable errors include 'resulted a serious situation' (missing 'in'), 'is in the shape of vertical' (incorrect structure), and 'Delhi... is illustrates' (double verb). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are inconsistent spaces before commas. To achieve a higher score, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and ensure that complex structures are formed with greater accuracy.
