Student answer (Band 6.5)

Construction of sky scrappers in large cities to provide sufficient houses is regarded as an optimal method. Personally, I totally agree with this thought as I consider that the development of multiple floor buildings is a relatively better route to accomodate a large group of individuals in a minimum amount of space available.

According to the recent world trends and preferences, most of the well developed nations are shifting towards the mindset to create tall buildings for multiple purposes such as hotels, offices and residencies. These people believe that by taking such initiatives, a large amount of residents could be adjusted within a small area without a decline in living standards. Along with this, development of such projects can also eventually lead to a decline in deforestation, which is currently practiced due to the increasing demand of homes for citizens and rising urbanization. As a result, the natural habitats will remain conserved, and the wildlife's privacy will also not be invaded as these buildings will eradicate the need for further expansion to construct more living space. Therefore, I am in favor of this idea to construct high altitude buildings as it aligns with my thoughts.

Conversely, some people might also contradict this idea by arguing that it is really expensive to build these sky scrappers because of the high costs of design, experts, and material. In addition, another counter argument is that these projects will take a long period to be completed, so they also require long term planning and patience. Nevertheless, in my perspective the merits of developing such projects overshadows these limitations and arguments as the gradual advancements of these projects will also lead towards the upgradation of the city's infrastructure.

In conclusion, building these tall structures is highly advantageous in several ways including better living space and reduction in urbanization. Thus, I fully agree with this statement as these projects will likely improve the present exacerbating situation, and they have more to offer in the future than we expect from them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments for both sides, such as the environmental benefits of high-density housing versus the economic costs of construction. The ideas are extended and supported with logical reasoning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are more specific; for instance, instead of mentioning 'well developed nations' in general, you could refer to a specific city like Singapore or Hong Kong to ground your argument more effectively. Overall, the task is well-addressed with a consistent viewpoint.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'Conversely,' 'In addition,' and 'Nevertheless' to transition between ideas. However, some of the linking is slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more precise. For example, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'these people' is a bit vague. Improving the flow between sentences by varying your cohesive devices would help the progression feel more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'natural habitats will remain conserved' and 'exacerbating situation' show an attempt to use more academic language. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'sky scrappers' (skyscrapers) and 'accomodate' (accommodate). Additionally, 'high altitude buildings' is slightly unnatural; 'high-rise buildings' or 'vertical residential developments' would be more appropriate in this context. Expanding your range of collocations would further enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There is generally good control over grammar, though some minor errors persist, such as 'the wildlife's privacy will also not be invaded' (which is slightly awkward phrasing) and 'merits... overshadows' (subject-verb agreement error: 'merits' is plural). Punctuation is generally accurate, but ensure you check for small slips in spelling and agreement. The majority of your sentences are clear and error-free, which supports a solid band 7 performance.
