Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention the housing crisis and affordability, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the point about 'convenience' for small families is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of urban planning or sustainability. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced arguments, such as the impact on land usage or infrastructure, rather than relying on general statements. The conclusion is also quite brief and merely restates the introduction without summarizing the main points effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'In conclusion'). Some transitions feel forced, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by grammatical errors. For example, the transition between the housing crisis and the solution of tall buildings is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'WOLD' instead of 'world', 'NECCESARY' instead of 'necessary', 'BILDING' instead of 'building', and 'APPARTMENT'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the essay. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations, such as 'construct more apartments' (better: 'constructing more apartment blocks') and 'higher authority' (better: 'urban planners' or 'local government').
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'development play vital role', 'apartments are the best solution'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain fragments, and there is a lack of complex structures. For example, 'people are migrate' should be 'people are migrating'. The frequent errors in basic grammar, combined with the lack of complex sentence variety, indicate that your control over grammar is currently limited.
