Student answer (Band 6.0)

Urbanisation and modernisation have become an integral part of our life. However to cater the demand of houses in metropolitan cities the best solution is to build tall apartment blocks. This essay intends to enumerate my perspective on the issue with suitable arguments in the subsequent paragraphs.

I strongly believe that due to the enhancement of population in large cities there is a shortage of space in the metropolitan to build enough houses so to fulfill the demand for houses apartments act as a saviour for this problem as they provide outstanding quality and experience. Moreover people with nuclear families can easily manage their homes by living in the apartment as it is an ideal choice for them.

Further expanding my views, apartments help in making new friends as people of different communities live in a same building despite of their distinct social beliefs. In addition, a survey conducted by a prestigious newspaper of Britain shows that it is expected in future that there would be more likely to have large apartments in the cities rather than normal houses.

However, some people opine that it is very dangerous to live in an apartments as many people have clos claustrophobia and the phobia of height so it would be highly risky for them to live in an apartment. Further, living in a flat costs high expensive for a middle class person to live there.

Different people have different notions regarding the statement but I have sound reasons to advocate that although a living in an apartment is quite beneficial but the challenges it poses cannot be overlooked.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention space constraints and community building, the arguments lack depth and specific examples. For instance, the reference to a 'prestigious newspaper of Britain' is vague and does not provide a concrete illustration of the issue. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed reasoning or real-world examples, such as discussing urban planning policies or the environmental impact of high-density housing, rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Further expanding my views', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The concluding paragraph is quite weak; it merely restates that there are different notions without effectively summarizing your main arguments or providing a final thought that reinforces your position. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urbanisation', 'metropolitan', and 'claustrophobia'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'cater the demand of houses' (should be 'cater to the demand for housing'), 'enhancement of population' (should be 'population growth'), and 'costs high expensive' (should be 'is expensive'). These errors occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the content. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include 'live in a same building' (should be 'the same building'), 'despite of' (should be 'despite'), and 'a living in an apartment' (should be 'living in an apartment'). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. While these errors do not prevent communication, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
