Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Yes I do agree with the idea of building tall apartment blocks because the people migrates from one city to another in the search of job opportunities to settle in big cities or in the search of higher education and in the result area become crowded newyork and tokyo is the best example of this were people moves on daily basis which makes those a crowded area and the main this to build high rised buildings is to control the coverage of horizontal land because we need land for many thing not only for living but for harvesting jobs buisnesses and mainly for trees to control global warming

The major advantage of high rise buildings are it is less spacious means in a minimum area of plane land can accommodate many families

The major disadvantage of high rise buildings are not to neglectable these high rise buildings can disaster too in the condition of panademic in the situation of war or in the condition of earthquack or many other environmental facts

So I disagree with the tall building apartment blocks only in the form of disasters other than that their is not a major thing agree with other than that their is only advantages of tall buildings.

New york is the best example of high rised buildings but in recent conditions people were gossiping if iran drops a bombs on new york city what will happen and how much damaging it will be but their is no exact ratio or calculation of the disaster.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a position, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you mention the benefits of high-rise buildings regarding land conservation, the arguments are under-developed and lack depth. The discussion on disadvantages is somewhat tangential, focusing on hypothetical war scenarios rather than urban planning challenges. The position is also slightly contradictory, as you state you agree with the idea but then conclude by saying you disagree due to disaster risks. To improve, ensure your main points are clearly linked to the prompt and supported with more logical, relevant examples rather than speculative scenarios.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the paragraphing is fragmented, with some paragraphs consisting of only one or two sentences. The use of cohesive devices is very limited; you rely on basic connectors like 'and' or 'so', which makes the flow of ideas mechanical and sometimes difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') and organize your ideas into clear, logical paragraphs with a topic sentence for each.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You use phrases like 'high rise buildings' and 'in the condition of' multiple times. There are also several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'panademic', 'earthquack', and 'gossiping' (which is not appropriate for this context). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people migrates', 'major advantage... are'), missing articles, and run-on sentences that lack proper punctuation. The sentence structures are mostly simple or compound; there is a lack of complex sentence forms, which limits your ability to show grammatical control. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex structures.
