Student answer (Band 5.0)
I'm totally agree with that decision and also, for enough space in city, there should be apartments.but we also need to see towards safety. the base of the building must be strong. sometimes the earthquake shows up and if the base is not enough strong to absorb that shocks, then the whole building will collapse and we will loose many lives, so the safety first and after that the public demand. The japan's population is increasing yearly and to control that we need to make building apartments but also there is the earthquake issue and the most recorded earthquake is in japan,so for controlling that we can use the latest technology (the shock absorber). they are installed below the foundation of building and whenever the earthquake comes it will absorb all the shocks, Yeah it can be a bit costly but the government/builder should see the safety of peoples first.but the pricing of these apartments must be in a range of middle class families.if the price will be higher then usual. the affording would be difficult.
if there is only 2/3 peoples are in a family they will decide to live in a apartment,on the other hand there are rich families who wants to live in mansion consist of 500 acre.just because they have money no one will ever point a finger against them.Eventhough if population is increasing, the demand of job will increase with it and the Government has to build building with the office just like the apartments in other buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the necessity of tall apartment blocks, but the development is inconsistent. While you mention safety and cost, the argument lacks depth and structure. The mention of 'rich families' and 'mansions' is largely irrelevant to the core issue of providing enough homes in large cities, which weakens the focus. To improve, you should ensure every paragraph directly supports your position on whether tall buildings are the 'best' solution. The ideas are present but remain at a surface level, lacking the necessary expansion and logical progression required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the paragraphing is non-existent, which makes the flow of ideas difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the abrupt transition between the earthquake discussion and the mention of wealthy families. The lack of logical sequencing means the reader has to work hard to understand the connection between your points. To improve, you must use clear paragraph breaks for each main idea and employ linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast' to guide the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying on simple phrasing such as 'see towards safety' and 'the earthquake shows up'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the affording would be difficult' and 'mansion consist of 500 acre'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited and does not demonstrate the ability to use less common or more precise academic vocabulary. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to urban planning and housing, and avoid informal or conversational language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the japan's population is increasing'), article usage ('the earthquake shows up'), and sentence structure (run-on sentences and comma splices). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. While you attempt some complex ideas, the lack of control over basic grammar prevents the use of a wide range of structures. Focusing on sentence boundaries and ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb will significantly improve your accuracy.
