Student answer (Band 5.0)

Building tall apartments blocks is considered as the best way for providing enough homes in large cities to coverup population. I totally agree with this point because by making tall appartments city is safe from unnecessary deforestation and maintaing the city population to a smaller area.

By building tall appartments many families can accomodate in single building living happily in their own homes floors by floors. It develops strong neighbour bonding. Government can save alot of unnecessary defforestation like for building seperate homes for eight families eight different places are required which leads to defforestation and increases the city map it requires more road service more downtowns near homes more security. So by building flats you can keep the city in a smaller region it helps to reduce founds for roads seperate downtowns for each housing society.

In conlusion by building appartment government can save both their resources and provide neighbours bouding chance to people

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 155 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and repetitive. While the student takes a clear position, the arguments regarding deforestation and infrastructure costs are under-developed and lack specific examples or logical depth. The task is only partially addressed because the brevity prevents a full exploration of the prompt's implications. To improve, the student must expand on their points with concrete evidence and ensure the response meets the length requirement to allow for a more thorough discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, a body paragraph, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is limited by the lack of length. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'by building'. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraph is underdeveloped, making the overall flow feel disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the benefits of high-rise living and the environmental arguments is abrupt. More sophisticated linking words and better paragraph development are needed to improve the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'building', 'homes', and 'city'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'appartments', 'accomodate', 'defforestation', and 'bouding', which detract from the quality of the writing. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the lack of precision and the recurring spelling mistakes indicate a need for a wider range of academic vocabulary and better attention to orthography.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with article usage ('the city population'), pluralization ('homes floors by floors'), and prepositional phrases. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on sentence variety and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
