Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this essay, there's a debate to build large apartments block in big cities is the best way to give enough homes. I will tell you in which extent I agree or disagree.

Firstly, I would like to agree with this statement because our population is increasing day by day and we don't have much lands to build home for every single person so many countries take this initiative to build tall buildings instead of building homes where they make apartments so more people can live in a large space. For instance, Indian population increase gradually people don't have home to live in so now there are more big buildings are build so many people can live.

Secondly, while I am agree but there are also still some disadvantages like many people don't like to live with others some have privacy issue, health issue, noise pollution. For Instance, Many people have healthcare issues like heart conditions where they can not go up and down from stairs many building don't have the facility of lift if they have electricity issues are not resolve then which make it difficult to live in a large building.

In my opinion, I am agree to live in a apartment but government should gave us more security and facilities to live in it.

To conclude, the idea to build tall apartments is good but if better security level increase it will takes less space but more people can live in it i think it's a great idea.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks. However, the position is inconsistent; the introduction states the writer will explain the extent of their agreement, but the body paragraphs shift between agreeing and highlighting disadvantages without a clear, unified stance. The ideas are somewhat underdeveloped, particularly the example regarding the Indian population, which lacks specific detail or logical connection to the argument. To improve, ensure each paragraph directly supports a clear, central thesis and provides more nuanced reasoning rather than listing general points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'For Instance'. The transition between the argument for tall buildings and the counter-argument is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making the flow of ideas feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences within paragraphs are logically connected to one another.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'big buildings', 'good', and 'make'. Some word choices are inaccurate, such as 'don't have much lands' (should be 'much land') and 'government should gave us' (should be 'give'). The essay lacks the use of less common or academic collocations that would demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise, topic-specific terms would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'there's a debate to build' (should be 'there is a debate about building'), 'while I am agree' (should be 'while I agree'), and 'if better security level increase it will takes' (should be 'if security levels are increased, it will take'). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are recurring issues. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
