Student answer (Band 6.0)

With rapid urbanization and soaring population growth, housing shortage became critical issue in metropolises. While some individuals argue that constructing tall apartment blocks is effective solution. I completely agree with this notion, the reason of which will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs of writing. To commence with, high rise apartment offer the efficient land use. In vertical housing, a single plot of land can provide accomodation to hundreds of fameties instead of just one. As a result, a large number of population can live in a small piece of area without wasting more valuable land. For Instance In megacities such as Tokyo and Hong Kong manage to provide house of million of people by constructing a upward builder apartments blocks rather then outward. Therefore Constructing a tall apartment blocks is essential for large cities to save land and provide housing to populace.

Moreover, constructing tall apartment blocks play vital role in preserving ecological balance when multitudes live in a tall building, the land area which is use for housing becomes smaller. Not only vertical skyscraper conserve ground, but it also enable more to design those remaining area for planting trees and public parks. For example, Countries like New York and Singapore constructed their accomodation vertically, which save the land and they utilize other remaining area for forest and public parks, which help give them fresh oxygen. Hence, Skyscraper apartment blocks help to safeguard the environment.

To conclude, high-rise buildings is the best way to give homes to population in metropolises. By using land in a suitable way, it is also beneficial for environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding land efficiency and environmental preservation are relevant and supported by examples, such as Tokyo and Singapore. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive, and the examples are slightly generalized (e.g., referring to 'New York' as a country). To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced analysis rather than repeating the same point about land saving in both paragraphs. The conclusion is brief but effectively summarizes your stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'the reason of which will be discussed'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'those remaining area', which lacks a specific antecedent. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urbanization', 'metropolises', and 'ecological balance'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation that hinder precision, such as 'upward builder apartments' instead of 'high-rise apartments' and 'provide house of million' instead of 'provide housing for millions'. Some words are used incorrectly, such as 'populace' (which refers to the people of a country/region, not the housing itself). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'high-rise buildings is the best way' (subject-verb agreement) and 'the land area which is use for housing' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalization after periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
