Student answer (Band 6.0)
The most effective method to cope with housing shortage problem in the metropolitan cities is to construct multistory apartment complexes. I strongly agree with this statement because large buildings can accommodate a large number of residents and also it is affordable to live there.
Firstly, the buildings require less land for their construction because these are constructed in a vertical way so it is on the builders that how many floors they want to build. Mostly, the residence apartment buildings are consist of thirty to forty stories which indicates that, In the place of one traditional house, builders construct thirty to forty apartment units. Consequently, skyscrapers can accommodate a large number of citizens as compared to the traditional housing societies and also require lesser land. For instance, a housing society acquires about 5 acres of land to build seventy houses while a multistory building would take only one acre to accommodate the same number of families. Therefore, In the era of urbanization it is the most suitable way to provide sustainable housing to the residents.
The apartments in the large buildings comparatively more affordable than suburban houses because when a builder develop a large building with hundreds of flats it costs him lower than single houses it is due to the purchasing of material in bulk so he demands an affordable price to the buyers. Moreover, apartment owners are exempted from property taxes in many countries. Furthermore, the large buildings utilize small piece of land so the remaining land can be used for other amenities like public parks.
In conclusion, Building large apartment blocks is the most efficient method to provide sufficient houses to the residents because of their affordability and suitability for cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding land efficiency and affordability are relevant and logically developed. However, the essay could be improved by acknowledging potential counter-arguments or drawbacks to high-rise living, such as social isolation or infrastructure strain, to provide a more balanced and nuanced discussion. While the ideas are well-supported with examples, the development is somewhat repetitive in the second paragraph. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task well, providing a clear stance and sufficient supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Consequently', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing within sentences could be smoother. For example, the phrase 'it is on the builders that how many floors' is awkward and disrupts the flow. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'metropolitan', 'urbanization', and 'sustainable housing'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'residence apartment buildings are consist of' (should be 'consist of') and 'demands an affordable price to the buyers' (should be 'offers' or 'charges'). The range is sufficient but lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band score. Improving the variety of collocations would enhance the overall quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'the housing shortage problem', 'the buildings... are consist of'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'it is on the builders that how many floors they want to build'. Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some unnecessary capitalizations (e.g., 'In the place of', 'In the era'). The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
