Student answer (Band 6.0)

With populations in large cities growing rapidly, finding ways to house everyone has become a major challenges. I firmly subscribe to the view that tall apartment blocks are an important solution, I do not believe they are the only or best way to provide enough homes. The main argument for building tall apartment blocks is efficient use of space. In big cities like Karachi, Lahore, Dubai, land is extremely expensive and limited. The most persuasive argument in favor of this view is that by buildings upwards instead outwards, hundreds of families can live on a small piece of land. This also reduce urban cities are makes are easy way to provide public transport, schools, and hospitals nearby. This is clearly exemplified by Bahria town and DHA in Pakistan are now high rise building and apartment because it is the only practical way of accomodation more people in central areas. I fully endorse the view that there are also problems with relying only on tall apartment blocks. Firstly quality of life can suffer. The people are more face difficulties because the blocks are so small and the shortage of water. Secondly tall buildings put a lot of pressure on infrastructure like electricity, sewage and facilities which many cities are not ready. Finally, a mix of housing is important. Some people may prefer expensive housing and others need affordable government housing project. In my opinion, the best approach is a combination. The government should tall apartments in city centers to save space. Accordingly , I remain fully convi although tall apartment blocks are a practical solution for housing shortages in large cities, they are not the complete answer. A balanced mix of high rise buildings and other types of housing would be more effective.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear position that acknowledges the benefits of tall apartment blocks while arguing for a balanced approach. Your ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of urban density in Pakistani cities. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully developed; for instance, the point regarding 'quality of life' is introduced but could be expanded with more specific detail on how high-rise living impacts social interaction or mental well-being. Overall, your response is well-focused and maintains a consistent stance throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where sentence structure impacts flow, such as the run-on sentence in the introduction ('...solution, I do not believe...'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits from the drawbacks. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices to link ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple listing markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urban density', 'infrastructure', and 'practical solution'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'by buildings upwards instead outwards' (should be 'building') and 'accomodation more people' (should be 'accommodating'). Additionally, there is a spelling error ('convi') at the end of the text. To achieve a higher score, work on using more precise collocations and ensure that your word forms are grammatically correct in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of your writing, such as 'This also reduce urban cities are makes are easy way' and 'The government should tall apartments'. These errors in subject-verb agreement and missing verbs suggest a need for more careful proofreading. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and verb tense consistency.
