Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout, acknowledging both the benefits and drawbacks of high-rise living. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'saving land' is mentioned in the introduction, the first body paragraph, and the conclusion without significant expansion or new insights. While the response covers all parts of the task, the supporting examples, such as the mention of 'companies' and 'shopping malls', are brief and lack depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the implications of your points more thoroughly, perhaps by discussing the socio-economic impact of high-density housing on urban infrastructure or community well-being.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'On one hand' and 'On another hand' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed. For example, the sentence 'This process can save money which was having high land prices' is confusing and lacks a clear logical link to the preceding statement. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'by building such as, companies, shopping malls', which lacks a proper noun or noun phrase to complete the thought. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'save' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'The apartments are been very overcrowded' (should be 'can be') and 'by building such as, companies' (which is grammatically and lexically awkward). While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'high-rise apartment blocks' and 'skyscrapers', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('The apartments are been'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('by this method we can save land and can provide housing'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of commas in lists or after introductory phrases. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading your work to correct basic tense and agreement errors and practice constructing more complex sentences with accurate punctuation.
