Student answer (Band 5.0)

the apartments are the major help in the crowed area; it has many blocks so the people can live their comfortably. some people say that the in large cities it is better to live in apartment. I partially agree with this given statement.

in large cities and developed cities there is not enough land or space to live our life peacefully. the apartments is the place were more than enough families can stay together; the apartment is the building where the houses are built on one another, to reduce the space efficiency. for an example in India and the other country where the population is much higher, people start to construct buildings to live in different apartments. the apartments are also very affordable in the price also it has every basic life need such as the water, drainage, ventilation, utility and other important facilities.

on the contrary there is some apartments where it is fully congested, there is not even enough place for the one people. the best example of this is in India, state called Maharashtra, there is a place called 'DHARAVI' it is so narrow and congested place but still it is a home of the thousands of people. it is approximately 10 to 15 km long and in this area the people who are extremely poor are lived their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a partial agreement, the arguments remain underdeveloped. The discussion on Dharavi is an interesting example, but it is not clearly linked back to the prompt regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the 'best' way to provide housing. The conclusion is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence, which means the position is not fully supported or summarised. To improve, ensure you fully develop each paragraph with clear topic sentences and a logical conclusion that reinforces your initial stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the transition between ideas is weak. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'the apartments' to start sentences. The lack of a proper conclusion further disrupts the logical flow of the essay. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus that contributes to your overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'place', 'big', and 'good' rather than more precise academic vocabulary. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'reduce the space efficiency' (which is logically confusing) and 'the apartments is the place were'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and collocations relevant to urban planning and housing, such as 'high-density living', 'urban sprawl', or 'infrastructure'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the apartments is', 'people who are extremely poor are lived'), article usage, and sentence structure. The sentences are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
