Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state your position clearly, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. The points regarding privacy and tourism are presented but not logically connected to the prompt about tall apartment blocks as a solution for housing shortages. The response is repetitive and lacks the necessary supporting evidence or detailed analysis required for an Academic Task 2 essay. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with specific examples and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often inaccurate, such as the transition 'as owing' which does not function correctly in context. The relationship between sentences is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning. Paragraphing is present but the content within the paragraphs lacks a clear progression of thought. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words correctly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly supports your main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic words like 'good', 'lot of', and 'things'. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'warries' instead of 'worries', 'neighoubers' instead of 'neighbors', and 'beinfits' instead of 'benefits'. These errors, combined with the restricted range of vocabulary, make it difficult to express complex ideas effectively. You should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and work on your spelling to improve clarity. Using synonyms and more specific terminology related to urban planning would significantly enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the information provide'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which makes the text difficult to read. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors in tense or word order. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Reviewing the use of articles and prepositions will also help to reduce the frequency of errors.
