Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the contemporary era, many people believe that the optimal way of giving enough homes in large cities is to construct tall apartments blocks. While others do not agree to this notion. This essay will examine both perspectives before giving my own stance. However, i strongly believe that building tall apartment blocks is the ultimate solution for small developing countries like Bangladesh with large number of population.

On the one hand, many people believe that making more sky scrapers in cities lower its overall quality of the life, and creates a lot of problems for the resident of that city. if there are many tall apartment blocks are being built around the city many problem will arise, for instance, there will be a traffic jam during the peak hours, especially during the office hours. Additionally, the number of vehicles will be surged, consequently people will be greatly affected by the sound and air pollution. In addition, ensuring security will be the real challenge. In many countries like Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden they prefer to live in a separate home rather than living with a lot of people.

Going toward the second school of thought, if we do not build tall apartment blocks we won't be able to accomodate a large number of people, especially in those countries where land is limited, but population are increasing day by day. A good example is Bangladesh. It is one of the most densely populated country in the world. Hence, it is necessary to build sky scrapers to ensure a shelter for every citizen. Additionally, we are heavily relied on agriculture for our food overall food supply. On the top of that, providing healthcare facility is another crucial factor for our government, hence it is important to build a large hospital with in a city so that it offers more convenience to all. Moreover, it is really important to allocate a designated place for export oriented industries.

After, discussing both perspectives i would like to say that whether it is important to build tall apartment blocks or not varies from region to region.

To sum up, i would like to say that the growth rate of population of a country is core factor to determine whether

is it really need to construct new tall buildings or not.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position, particularly in the introduction and the second body paragraph. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide relevant arguments regarding population density and land scarcity, the discussion on the 'other side' is slightly disjointed. The conclusion is also quite weak; it fails to clearly restate your position or summarize the main arguments effectively, instead introducing a new, vague condition. To improve, ensure that every paragraph directly supports your thesis and that your conclusion provides a definitive summary of your stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Additionally' and 'In addition'. Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the logical progression within the final paragraph is unclear. The referencing is occasionally confusing, such as in the sentence 'While others do not agree to this notion', which lacks a clear subject. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one will help elevate your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'contemporary era', 'densely populated', and 'export oriented industries'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'giving enough homes' instead of 'providing sufficient housing', and 'number of vehicles will be surged' instead of 'will surge'. There are also minor spelling and punctuation errors, such as 'accomodate' and 'with in'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary choices are consistently natural and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'if there are many tall apartment blocks are being built' contains a redundant verb structure. You also struggle with subject-verb agreement, such as 'population are increasing' and 'It is one of the most densely populated country'. Additionally, the use of articles is inconsistent throughout the text. While your meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.
