Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 155 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and under-developed. While the prompt asks for an opinion on whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution, the response lacks a clear, consistent position and fails to provide relevant examples or logical support. The arguments regarding 'saving plants' and 'education' are presented in a fragmented manner, making it difficult to follow the writer's reasoning. To improve, you must expand your arguments with specific examples and ensure you address all parts of the prompt in sufficient detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks logical progression and clear paragraphing. While there are attempts to use cohesive devices like 'on one hand', they are used incorrectly or in isolation. The ideas within paragraphs are not linked effectively, leading to a disjointed reading experience. There is no clear introduction or conclusion, and the lack of transition between sentences makes the argument difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'however') to connect ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that supports your main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying on basic words like 'big', 'good', and 'people'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'super cities' instead of 'metropolises' and 'cutting plant' instead of 'deforestation'. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the misuse of terms often obscures the intended meaning. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and practice using synonyms to avoid repeating the same basic adjectives throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'I am agree'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures. The essay relies almost entirely on simple sentences, with no evidence of complex grammatical structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which further disrupts the flow of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically the use of articles, verb tenses, and subject-verb agreement. Once these are stable, begin practicing the use of complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions like 'although', 'because', or 'which'.
