Student answer (Band 6.5)

Increasing population and migration has become major cause for urbanization. It is more appropriate to build apartment blocks to generate enough homes in metropolis cities. I completely endorse the given statement and my inclination will be discussed in ensuing paragraph.

First and foremost advantage of apartment building is that it help to mitigate deforestation. To elaborate, the population has been increased exponentially in recent years. consequently, cities are expanded to settle such a large number of crowd, which ultimately leads to destruction of forest to build residential area. As a result, building apartments can provide solitaire to maximum people in less space occupancy. Another advantage of high rise building is that they are budget friendly. To explain, the cost of building a house on land is comparatively high than flat in apartment. For instance, a builder usually build maximum floor on a specific size of land; subsequently, less money is spent on land which become a major reason of cost cutting.

Furthermore, apartment provides unity and enhance social relations among the people living in it. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding environmental preservation, cost-effectiveness, and community building are relevant and logically developed. However, some points are slightly under-developed; for instance, the claim that high-rise buildings 'eradicate' the fear of robbery is a strong generalization that could have been supported with more nuanced reasoning. The introduction and conclusion are functional, though the conclusion could be more impactful by summarizing the main points with more sophisticated synthesis. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task well, providing a clear stance and supporting evidence for each main idea.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct theme, such as environmental impact, cost, and social benefits. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'First and foremost', 'To elaborate', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'which become a major reason of cost cutting' lacks a clear antecedent). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments, which helps the reader follow the flow of the argument easily. The overall structure is coherent and effective.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific terminology like 'urbanization', 'mitigate', and 'exponentially'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'provide solitaire' (likely meaning 'solace' or 'accommodation'), 'metropolis cities' (redundant), and 'laymen safety'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on more natural collocations and avoid using words that do not quite fit the intended meaning in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the population', 'a builder'), subject-verb agreement ('apartment provides', 'robber to enter'), and tense consistency ('builder usually build'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are slightly clunky due to these grammatical slips. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To improve, the student should pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules, especially pluralization and article usage, which would significantly enhance the accuracy of the writing.
