Student answer (Band 6.0)
The most significant approach to resolve accommodation problem is by constructing a high rise building. I completely agree with this trend become tall apartment section of houses can accommodate numerous number of people, conserve more lands and affordability in terms of rent fees.
The main reason for my view is that high rise buildings can provide enough homes for large number of people. This is because an high rise apartment contains different blocks of houses that each household can occupy without interfering with each other. Although it might not be too spacious, it can provide home of numerous number of households. For instance, in Nigeria there was a time where Lagos state was suffering from accommodation problems, the government had to construct different number of high apartment that contains different block of houses which can home large number of people.
Another major reason why I hold this position is that it helps to manage lands. This means, instead of building twenty bungalows in an area, that land can be managed by constructing tall apartment blocks. Therefore, government can use this construction projects to conserve lands in the urban areas where there is overpopulation. Furthermore, this also assists people to manage their funds because an apartment is not to cost compared to when an individual wants to buy land and construct a house. For example, a man who earns a low salary can easy afford an apartment in a high rise apartment blocks.
In conclusion, the reason why high rise building can resolve issue of accommodation is because it can contain large number of family living separately, minimize usage of land and it make life easier for low social economic class.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding land management and affordability are relevant and supported by a personal example from Nigeria. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, and the explanation of how high-rise buildings specifically solve accommodation issues could be more nuanced. While the task is addressed, the supporting points lack depth, and the conclusion simply restates the introduction without adding further insight. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the potential drawbacks of high-rise living to provide a more balanced and comprehensive discussion, which would demonstrate a more sophisticated engagement with the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'The main reason for my view', 'Another major reason', and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive (e.g., repeating 'high rise' and 'apartment' frequently). The transition between ideas is functional but lacks variety. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that pronouns or synonyms are used more effectively to avoid repetitive phrasing, which will help the text flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'accommodation', 'urban areas', and 'overpopulation'. However, there is a lack of variety, and some word choices are imprecise, such as 'numerous number of' (which is redundant) and 'not to cost' (incorrect collocation). There are also instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'this trend become tall apartment section'. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater sophistication and accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a high rise apartment'), pluralization ('different number of high apartment'), and verb forms ('it make life easier'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to these errors. While you attempt complex structures, they are often marred by inaccuracies. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for these common errors will significantly enhance the clarity and professional tone of your writing.
