Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of high-rise buildings. The main ideas—affordability and environmental preservation—are relevant and supported with examples, such as the situation in Melbourne. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding environmental impact is a bit repetitive and lacks depth in explaining how high-density living specifically benefits the ecosystem beyond just 'clearing land.' While the position is consistent throughout, the response would benefit from more nuanced exploration of the counter-arguments or more detailed evidence to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Consequently' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing or minor grammatical errors. Referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother if the sentences were linked with more sophisticated transitions rather than simple connectors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'mitigating,' 'ecosystem,' and 'scarcity.' However, there are several spelling errors ('rapildly,' 'infrasturcures,' 'urbun,' 'envronmental') and word choice inaccuracies ('sky rocked' instead of 'skyrocketed,' 'fair amout of price' instead of 'reasonable price'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score as they demonstrate a lack of control over more complex lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement ('cities popularity have been increased') and incorrect verb forms ('building tall apartment can be accommodated'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is recommended.
