Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is an undeniable fact that, building tall apartment block is the best way to provide sufficient housing in large cities. Although, high rise buildings can accommodate many citizens in small areas. I largely agree with this view the explanations and examples would be discuss in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, tall apartment blocks are effective solution of land in large countries. To elaborate, as urban population grow day-by-day it become difficult to provide individual houses for everyone because land is limited and expansive. The tall blocks not only important for low-income family but also increase safety for individuals. For example, in Mumbai, where land is extremely limited and the population is very high, so many people live in the high-rise apartment buildings.

Furthermore, building upward can help control urban expansion and protect surrounding area. If cities mainly construct houses, the agricultural land and natural areas may be replaced by residential department. For instance, Singapore has developed many houses on the natural and forest areas. As a result, they face shortage of land for agriculture and wildlife habitat.

However, high-rise apartment can create some problems, such as overcrowding, noise, and pressure for public facilities. if too many people live in one building roads, schools, and public transport may become highly congested. The best example of this in Tokyo have combined high-density housing with efficient public transport and well-planned urban facilities.

In conclusion, I largely agree that building hall apartment block is the best way to provide homes in large cities. Although, high-rise house can create pressure on infrastructure.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as land scarcity and urban planning, though some points are slightly under-developed. For instance, the example of Singapore is confusingly presented, as it suggests the city developed houses on forest areas, which contradicts the argument for high-density living. The conclusion restates the position but introduces a slight contradiction by calling it the 'best way' while acknowledging significant pressure on infrastructure. To reach a higher band, ensure that examples are logically consistent and that the main argument is fully supported without internal contradictions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'the explanations and examples would be discuss in the following paragraphs'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. While the overall progression is logical, the use of cohesive devices is not always flexible or natural, which limits the score to a 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'urban expansion', 'high-density housing', and 'infrastructure'. However, there are several word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'residential department' (likely meaning 'residential developments') and 'building hall apartment block' (likely meaning 'tall'). Some phrasing is repetitive, and the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensuring word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('population grow', 'it become'), article usage, and pluralization ('tall apartment block', 'high-rise house'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with accurate subordinate clauses.
