Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this rapid pacing world, the problem of population is increasing day by day, so the problem of houses are. Big cities come up with large population and little areas for development, to come up with this issue, society suggested to build skyscrapers in cities to fulfil the requirements of homes. It is irrefutable fact that cities are getting very busy and to cover up the issue, society has to take mandatory action to solve the house crisis.

World is following the trend of living in skyscrapers to live in the heart of the city among everyone for conveniency rather than living in individual house which is far away from the daily use stores. For example, in a tall apartment, people can easily live with their loved ones under same building with different floors to maintain the privacy and boundaries whereas they believed that building a house is expensive and maintaining it cost too much.

All the skyscrapers come with advanced technologies and outstanding facilities like fast moving lifts, swimming pools, earthquake safe infrastructures, lobbies for outsiders, and most importantly security for children and old parents. For example, due to inflation around the world, most people lose their employment, to cover the basic cost of living, people are targeting cars parked at the drive-way of a house, or car parts to get some money by selling it in the market. To avoid this situation, people prefer to live in apartments where doors and gates are protected by camera and security.

I firmly believe that to solve the housing crisis, government should take immediate action to put a restriction on inviting immigrants from other countries, subsidies new home buyer for getting their first residence in apartment rather than subsidies in home. Society should leave illegal encroachment so it makes more way to people rather than getting busy and busy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments regarding convenience, cost-effectiveness, and security to support the idea of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the argument regarding immigration in the final paragraph is a bit tangential and not fully linked to the core topic of urban housing density. To reach a higher band, ensure that every paragraph directly supports your central thesis without introducing new, complex socio-political issues that require more space to explain. The ideas are generally relevant, but the depth of analysis could be improved by focusing more on urban planning or sustainability.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For example' and 'whereas', to link your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'to come up with this issue' in the introduction, which is not standard usage. Additionally, some sentences within paragraphs feel slightly disjointed, and the referencing (e.g., 'to cover up the issue') is occasionally vague. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'irrefutable fact', 'infrastructure', and 'encroachment'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'rapid pacing world' (should be 'fast-paced world'), 'little areas for development' (should be 'limited space'), and 'subsidies new home buyer' (should be 'subsidize'). These errors occasionally hinder the precision of your expression. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word forms (nouns vs. verbs) are used correctly in context. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the problem of houses are') and article usage ('in a tall apartment', 'in home'). Some sentences are also slightly awkward in their construction, such as 'society suggested to build skyscrapers'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. To progress, work on proofreading for basic agreement errors and practice using more complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences with greater accuracy.
